Dinophysis rotundata
Description Onderzoeker Gabriel Orellana van de UGent onderzoeksgroep Milieutoxicologie heeft op staalname met de Simon Stevin deze zomer de dinoflagellaat Dinophysis rotundata gevonden. Een aanverwante soort van dit toxische fytoplankton, geïsoleerd uit onze kustwateren, wordt nu opgekweekt in het laboratorium om zo de geproduceerde toxines te kunnen onderzoeken. Weten onder welke omstandigheden deze toxines geproduceerd worden is een eerste stap om de risico's van toxische algenbloeien beter in te schatten.
