Holotype of Duotaxis birmanica Zaninetti & Brönnimann in Brönnimann et al. 1975 and additional specimens assigned to birmanica by Zaninetti & Brönnimann. The species is herein assigned to Kristanita gen. nov. and regarded as a junior synonym of Kristanita inflata (Kristan 1957) (see text for further details). A, holotype (NHMUK PM P 48765). B–S, K. birmanica specimens illustrated in the original description: B, NHMUK PM P 48764; C, NHMUK PM P 48751; D, NHMUK PM P 48763; E, NHMUK PM P 48766; F, NHMUK PM P 48776; G, NHMUK PM P 48778; H, NHMUK PM P 48773; I, NHMUK PM P 48779; J, NHMUK PM P 48767; K, NHMUK PM P 48774; L, NHMUK PM P 48775; M, NHMUK PM P 48768; N, NHMUK PM P 48777; O, NHMUK PM P 48769; P, NHMUK PM P 48758; Q, NHMUK PM P 48770; R, NHMUK PM P 48752; S, NHMUK PM P 48768. T, specimen from the Norian of the Northern Calcareous Alps (Austria) assigned to Trochammina? sp. by Papp & Turnovsky (1970) and regarded as possibly falling in the range of variability of the species birmanica by Zaninetti & Brönnimann despite its larger size. According to the present study, specimens N, P and R–S might represent juveniles of D. metula, and specimens J–K may either be juveniles of K. inflata or belong to a different species and genus (see text for further details). Scale bars represent 200 μm.
