Whereas representatives of the foraminiferal superfamily Acervulinacea Schultze, 1854 are widespread in Paleocene to Holocene reef environments, our knowledge of pre-Tertiary acervulinaceans is still very incomplete. Therefore, the discovery of numerous specimens in the uppermost Albian of northern Spain (Caniego, Burgos province) is of major interest. In this note, the new taxon Menaella bustamantei n. gen., n. sp., representing the new family Menaellidae, is established. This new acervulinacean genus is characterized by a free-living conical juvenile stage, composed of a rectilinear series of chamber layers. Some of the larger acervulinacean fragments from the same locality could belong to the adult stage of this new taxon.
