Etymology The name Exitomelita is based on the Latin word for vent or outlet (exitus) combined with the older genus name Melita. This is because this new genus appears highly adapted and specialized to the hydrothermal vent environment, in addition to its close relation to the Melita group. The name is feminine in gender. [details]
