Publication date Gravier (1899) first published a description of Nereis (Ceratonereis) obocki, then (1900) a plate with a figure of Ceratonereis obockensis, and finally (Gravier, 1902: 177) a full text description of Ceratonereis obockensis (actually as Nereis (Ceratonereis) obockensis). The same figures apply throughout, and there was only a single specimen (now MNHN POLY TYPE 303). The publication date of C. obocki is 1899 [details]

Synonymy The objective synonymy of Ceratonereis 'obocki' and C. 'obockensis' has evidently not been noticed in the literature, although the similarity of the names and that the same author named them around the same time invites suspicion as to whether they truly are distinct, naming a different entity.
Gravier (1899: 240) named 'Ceratonereis obocki' (actually as Nereis (Ceratonereis) obocki), then in another journal (Gravier, 1900: plate 11; Gravier, 1902: 177, text figures 176-178) he named the same specimen as 'Ceratonereis obockensis'. The figures are the same in both journals. Possibly the difference in names was a mistake, but the first name 'obocki' is validly published and is senior to the changed spelling of the second name. As the names have the same type they are objective synonyms. The MNHN Paris has only the type labelled 'obockensis' (MNHN POLY TYPE 303) [details]
