Nomenclature Finlay (1927:496) introduced the name Gazameda iredalei as a replacement name for Turritella clathrata Kiener, 1843 of which he says it is pre-occupied by Deshayes in Bory de St. Vincent, 1833. Up to date, no proof of a description of a Turritella clathrata by Deshayes or Bory has been traced back. Kiener's species is, however, preoccupied by De Serres, 1829. It is very likely Finlay confused with Paludina clathrata, which is the next species after the ones listed in the genus Turritella on p. 148 in Bory, 1833. [details]

Nomenclature Finlay (1927:496) introduced the name Gazameda iredalei as a replacement name for Turritella clathrata Kiener, 1843 of which he says it is pre-occupied by Deshayes in Bory de St. Vincent, 1833.
