Nomenclature Tate & May (1900:95) introduced the name Turritella atkinsoni with the meaning to replace Turritella tasmanica Tenison woods, 1876 which is pre-occupied by Reeve, 1849. Tenison-woods had initially attributed that name to a tertiary fossil, yet at the time of the actual description, he used it for a recent marine species. [details]
