Homonymy Gmelin established the name Murex versicolor twice: (1) page 3530, based on a figure by Knorr (5, pl. 4 fig 1) representing Chicereus brunneus; (2) page 3556, based on figures by Knorr (3, pl. 14 fig. 1) and Chemnitz (4: pl. 146 fig. 1348). Acting as First Reviser, Vokes (1971) gave preseance to the latter over the former. [details]
