Taxonomy Saint-Joseph (1894) erected Eurato (Sabellidae) new genus defined in a key on p.249, for several Sabella species (added in a footnote) Sabella pyrrhogaster Grube, S. porifera Grube , S. manicata Grube, S. notata Grube, S. melanostigma Schmarda sec. Ehlers, and S. costulata Grube. Bush (1905) designated the type species as S. pyrrhogaster, which was the first mentioned in Saint-Joseph's list of members. Bush added the characters of "Branchiae joined by membranous web. Inferior setae on thorax, below collar fascicle, * suboval ' in form. Uncini avicular in form." According to Knight-Jones & Mackie 2003 Eurato was created "for species like Sabellastarte, but with radioles not interdigitating to form two concentric semicircles. None of his included species (footnotes, pp. 249, 250) belong to Sabellastarte. The first mentioned species is Sabella pyrrhogaster Grube (1878), designated type species of Eurato by Bush (1905). Sabella pyrrhogaster is a species of Notaulax Tauber (1879) and Eurato is therefore a junior synonym of Notaulax (Perkins, 1984). " [details]
