Homonymy Nauphanta Kinberg, 1865 is senior homonym to replaced name Nauphanta Greef, 1876 (Phyllodocidae, Alciopini Tribe), which was replaced by Greeffia McIntosh, 1885 [details]Publication date Strictly on year date Nauphanta is senior to Marphysa. Possibly this has been discussed in literature. The year date for Marphysa in Quatrefages' book is uncertain but was set back to 1866 from 1865 on debatable evidence. At earliest the Quatrefages' date defaults to 31 December 1865 under the code as the true date is unknown. [details]

Type designation The type species of Nauphanta Kinberg, 1865 is Nauphanta novaehollandiae by subsequent designation by Fauchald (1987) who wrote: "Nauphanta novaehollandiae is here considered the type species of the genus since it was listed first in Kinberg’s description of the genus." However, this is just a convenient means of making a choice, often used by Hartman, Fauchald's mentor, and others. No Code rule endorses choosing a type by page priority, although the first mentioned species of a new genus may be the best described. [details]
