Taxonomy Hartman oddly wrote that her S. söderströmi was a new name, rather than a new species. The two specimens were from the Swedish Antarctic expedition and identified (included in material examined) by Söderström (1920) as S. kroyeri Grube, along with a large amount of other specimens. Blake (1983) suggested Hartman based the species on other material as well, placed as a mix of species currently. South Georgia is not an original locality for this species (fide Blake, contrary to Hartman (1966:23). [details]

Spelling Hartman originally used a spelling with diacritics, and as Söderström was Swedish born, not German, the awkward 'oe' replacement is not used, as the name is not 'based on a German word' (Art. 32.5.2).
