Nomenclature The name Lepidipleuridae was established as a replacement name for Leptochitonidae, based on Leptochiton, by Pilsbry considered a synonym of Lepidopleurus. Dell'Angelo & Palazzi [1991, Bollettino Malacologico, 27(1-4): 36] were of the opinion that Lepidopleuridae should be conserved under Art. 40b of the Code (ed. 3), but the name Leptochitonidae is in current use and priority must apply. [details]
