Description Description of the syntype: Small dome shaped silicified colony. Plocoid. Extracalicular increase. Corallite nearly as deep as large. Lower surface not preserved. Peritheca costulate with confluent costae. More costae than septa, probably abortive septa in the wall. Radial elements are compact straight costosepta. Septal part attenuated. Very regular radial hexameral symmetry. Typical large corallite show 3 cycles (sensu Milne Edwards). Septa of the first cycle possibly join the axial structure. Difficult to say the part of septal structure (tigelle), of endotheca and the exaggeration by diagenetic processes. Lateral and distal ornamentation and microstructure not observable. Essential strong styliform columella. Endotheca not observable. Synapticulae absent. Wall in relief parathecal or close to a paratheca. [details]

Status Gemmastrea is a nomen oblitum, junior synonym of Stylina sensu Etallon, non sensu Alloiteau
