The polychaet [sic] fauna of Bombay is quite rich both in variety and quantity. Exhaustive collections for one year, mainly from seven selected localities of Bombay's intertidal region (Map, Fig. 1), have yielded as many as 34 species of polychaetes belonging to 12 families. Two varieties are new to science; while 4 of the 34 species described are new records for India. It is also interesting to note that of these 34 species only 2 (viz. Perinereis nuntia Savigny and P. cultrifera Grube) have been previously recorded from Bombay (Fauvel, 1932, 1953).
