berranta palp~ta, n. sp. is described from the northern Gulf of Mexico. It, along with A. enigmatica Hartman, 1965, is placed in a newly-proposed family, Aberrantidae. The family is characterized by having a median antenna, laterally placed paired palps and two achaetous peristomial segments. Setae are all simple, with straight or hooked tips; neuropodia also with lyrate setae.
