Several specimens of an aberrant marine annelid were collected near Durban, Natal, on the 15th of July, 1951, by Mr. N. O'Connor, a student in the Zoology Department, University of Cape Town, which differ from any previously described marine worm. Of the eight specimens, here described as members of the same new species, four are markedly different from the others in the form of some of the modified parapodia of the middle body-region. Since work on the living form, its method of reproduction, type of development, etc., is necessary before the exact relationship of the species can be ascertained, any theories suggesting this relationship must be considered with caution.
In order to facilitate further examination of the specimens, when knowledge of the biology of the species has been obtained, each specimen is described separately and its location in museum or private collection specifically noted. These descriptions are followed by a discussion on the possible relationship of the species.
