Le golfe Persique, le golfe de Tadjourah, à l'entrée de la mer Rouge, et le canal de Mozambique ne sont, en réalité, que de simples dépendances de l'océan Indien. Le lecteur ne s'étonnera donc pas de trouver réunies dans ce mémoire les descriptions d'Annélides Polychètes provenant de ces diverses mers.
Madagascar et le golfe de Tadjourah sont, en outre, situés dans la zone intertropicale, et le golfe Persique, à peine au nord du tropique du Cancer, est une mer aussi chaude que la mer Rouge. Les conditions climatériques sont donc bien comparables dans ces trois localités et il était probable a priori que la faune annélidienne y présenterait des différences assez faibles. L'étude systématique du matériel recueilli confirme pleinement ces prévisions.
Ces Annélides Polychètes proviennent de trois collections distinctes du Muséum de Paris dont M. le professeur Ch. Gravier nous a fort aimablement confié l'étude.
