Status Marshall and Pugh (2000) described Schusteria melanomerus but Karasawa & Aoki (2005) questioned this classification and transferred it (and another species) to the genus Rhizophobates. Subías (2008) synonymized all species of Rhizophobates to Thalassozetes. This action was confirmed by Bayartogtokh & Chatterjee (2010). However, the systematic oribatid lists of Subías are just online lists in the internet and do not represent a published work according to the International Code on Zoological Nomenclature.
Pfingstl & Schuster (2012) argued that both taxonomic transfers were unjustified and that these species should remain in Schusteria. Pfingstl (2016) gave a detailed description of Sch. melanomerus and came to the same conclusion based on detailed morphological studies. [details]
