Metataeniacanthus synodi Pillai, 1963 is redescribed based on specimens of both sexes recovered from the branchial lamellae of the snakefish, Trachinocephalus myops (Forster, 1801) (Aulopiformes, Synodontidae) in Japan. The description of the male is the first time for the species.
