Grammatical gender Dubiously feminine. According to Eeckhaut et al (1998) the gender of Notopharyngoides is feminine because pharynx is feminine. However, the 1999 Code places -oides names as masculine unless originally combined with a feminine adjectival name (Art 301.4.4). The type species name is 'ijimai', a noun genitive.
