Comparison The genus, for its regular hexameral septal apparatus, tabular endotheca, microstructural features such as straight midseptal zone with well individualized centers and thick septal and wall stereome organized in fascicles, is not comparable to other taxa described so far. [details]Description Morphology was described by Volz 1896 and, recently, by Roniewicz and Michalik 2002 with illustrations of the microstructure of septa of the type material. [details]
Diagnosis Solitary. Septal apparatus regular, hexameral. Radial elements differentiated into four size orders with the strongest S1 septa. Lateral septal faces covered with small and abundant granulations. Mid-septal zone straight with discernible centers. Septal lateral stereome differentiated into fascicles of fibres. Endotheca tabular. Epithecal stereome thick, partly radial, partly differentiated into large, irregular fascicles of fibres. [details]
Remark Only the type species is known. Other corals described so far under generic name of Protoheterastraea need revision. [details]
