Status The Canary Island population of Diadema was considered to be specifically different from Diadema antillarum and consistently named Diadema aff. antillarum in a number of papers on various aspects of the biology of that population. From 2011 onwards some papers used the name "Diadema africana" for this population, but we were unable to trace this back to a published description fulfilling the requirements of the Code. Consequently the name "Diadema africana" appears to be currently unavailable. [details]
Status This taxon has now been validly described under the name Diadema africanum Rodríguez, Hernández, Clemente & Coppard, 2013 (AphiaID 731162). [details]
