Etymology The name of the species is derived from Latin “barba” meaning “beard” and Latin “nigra”
meaning “black”. This refers to the British Edward Teach (or Thatch), nicknamed "Blackbeard”, active as pirate in the Caribbean, birth about 1680, death 1718. One popular name of Kinorhyncha is "muddragon” (see Neuhaus 2013) which rises the expectation of a fierceful animal. Hence the association with pirates’s names in this paper. [details]
