Status Smith & Wright (1996: p. 329) stated: "Nestler (1978) erected the genus Nannoglyphus for a minute 'temnopleurid' from the Lower Maastrichtian of Rügen, northern Germany. He stated that it was very similar to Zeuglopleurus in form but differed in having smaller pitting on plates and in having a well defined median interradial groove. In fact, the ornamentation of the test is identical to that seen in many specimens of Z. rowei and we can see no justification for maintaining the genus
as distinct." Consequently they synonymized Nannoglyphus with Zeuglopleurus.
However, re-examining the type material of N. werhli and abundant new material Kutscher (1999) demonstrated that N. wehrli the type-species of Nannogyphus has perforated tubercles (imperforate in Zeuglopleurus) and represents juvenile specimens of the glyphocyphid Hemidiadema. He consequently synonymized Nannoglyphus with Hemidiadema. [details]
