Homonymy This combination is a junior secondary homonym of Spongia tubulosa variously proposed by Linnaeus (1759), Pallas (1766), Ellis & Solander (1786), Esper (1797) and Lamarck (1814). The homonymy is lifted by its synonymy with Spongia (Spongia) virgultosa. [details]
Taxonomic remark Burton (1956) recorded this combination from Madeira in a Table, without further description or source origin. It is assumed here that this conforms to Spongia (Spongia) virgultosa. [details]
