Editor's comment The entry for Tubularia spallanzanii is missing here and instead is present under the true hydrozoan Tubularia. It is the original name for the well-known Sabella spallanzanii, following the decisions (contrary to strict priority) of Knight-Jones & Perkins to make Sabella spallanzanii the valid name, rather than Sabella penicillus (Linnaeus) [details]
Nomenclature No such Polychaeta genus. Duplicate to Tubularia Linnaeus, in Cnidaria: Hydrozoa to enable editing of Sabellida Annelida originally named in "Tubularia" (Hydrozoa). See Hydrozoa. Some early workers were confused at times on the classification of some 'fan-worm' polychaetes, & notably various 'penicillus' were placed in Tubularia. The Nomenclator Zoologicus entry suggests "Tubularia Fabricius, 1780" is a homonym, but this is a mistake. Fabricius was using the Hydrozoan genus name on the page noted. [details]
