Description Cidarids and diademataceans have teeth with an U-shaped cross section. Stirodont echinaceans evolved mechanically stronger t-shaped (or keeled) teeth evolved. In the camarodont echinaceans the plates of the jaw apparatus (pyramids) are connected by a bow (epiphysis), which further increases their strength. Cross sections of teeth are shown in solid black.
