Type locality Pacific Ocean, Japan. Pacific Ocean, Japan. The species was described with base on specimens from three different localities, Mukaishima and Noto-ogi, at Honshu, and Usa, at Shikoku. However the original description does not refer which of them is the type locality. [details]
Depth range Intertidal and shallow depths.
Distribution Central and Southern Japan; Australia (Western Australia).
Etymology The specific epithet japonica makes reference to the type locality of the species, Japan.
