Status Warren et al (1996: 245) suggests M cirripes is sufficiently incompletely known to be a species inquirenda, but also state "locality and the habitat, however, suggest that this might be a separate species" and "holotype differs from specimens of other species of Mediomastus by the morphology of the hooks on thorax and abdomen; the shape of the setigers including the thorax/abdomen boundary; and the prominent palpode." Thus the species has a holotype, and is currently distinct (distinguishable) from congeners, but is incompletely known [details]
