Etymology Kudenov states that the species' epithet 'quadricincta' "derives from the presence of four transverse annuli on most body segments". Earlier he states that the species is distinct for "anterior body segments quadriannulate, instead of triannulate or biannulate ...". Cinctus names relate to a noun meaning girdle or belt. There are over 40 variants on 'quadricinctus' species-group names in WoRMS and four have combinations changing between quadricinctus and quadricincta as they change genera. However, as Hyboscolex quadricincta ends in the noun 'cincta', it is a noun phrase in apposition and is not required to match the genus in gender. [details]

[details]

Spelling Hyboscolex is a masculine genus, but the descriptive species name quadricincta can be considered as an unchanging noun phrase. See the note on etymology for further details. [details]
