Immature dull mottled blackish brown above and on belly, white below with dull brown streaking and spotting on breast, chest and upper belly; tail with a dark tip; streaking and spotting decreases as the bird matures, but this takes several years. Bare parts: iris hazel to pale brown; bill black with a bright yellow cere, grey in immature; lores bright yellow, grey in immature; feet and legs bright yellow, grey in immature. Habitat: bays, beaches, estuaries, creeks and any other open water, coastal or inland; usually associated with large trees.<388><391><393> [details]
