Comment Karl Wittmann (email dd 6 September 2025): Sars (1885) cited "Eucopia equatoria" on pages 54, 55. He cited Spence Bate to have assigned the name "Eucopia equatoria", who actually did not so in his publications from 1881 and 1888. In detail Sars wrote on pages 54-55: "The genus does not, in my opinion, at present comprise more than a single species, described in detail below. Mr. Spence Bate having examined some of the specimens from the Challenger Expedition, does indeed suggest that one of these is the representative of a new species, to which he assigns the name of Eucopia equatoria, but after a careful examination of this, I feel convinced that it ought to be regarded as a male of Eucopia australis, the assumed specific differences being readily accounted for as mere sexual characters." Note that Sars did not indicate a year, so he may have gotten the name by personal communication.
