Taxonomic remark Haeckel (1879) says that this is the only species of the originally seven Aegineta species described by Gegenbaur which can remain in the genus, and thus selected this species as type species of the genus. He also formally says that this is the type species by stating "Aegineta hemisphaerica kann alleine als Typus der Gattung beibehalten werden".
The species has never been seen treated by subsequent compilers like Mayer or Kramp, but it could be found again and redescibed. [details]
