Nomenclature Not pre-occupied Orbigny, 1850 (Cassiopidae - derived from Orbigny's comparison to Turritella coquandiana Orbigny, 1842 (= Hexaglauconia coquandiana (Orbigny, 1842) (Cassiopidae) fide Mennessier, 1984)).

Not pre-occupied through recombination by Cerithium excavatum Sowerby in Reeve, 1865 as this is a granulated Colpospira australis (Lamarck, 1822) which eliminates the recombination necessity.

Not requiring replacement following synonymy with T. declivis.

Both Tryon (1886:205) and Kobelt (1897:50) treated this name as synonym for Turritella exoleta (Linnaeus, 1758), and are here considered misidentifications. [details]
