Checked: verified by a taxonomic editorStatus This generic name is based on a completely jumbled misspelling of the name "Spatangus loncophorus Meneghini" (originally established in Desor, 1858) as "Concophorus Meneghinii" attributed to Desor as author and is a nomen nudum. Later this mistake has led to even further invalid generic names, namely Loncophorus and Lonchophorus (both not intentionally established, and junior homonyms of coleopteran genera). For a full discussion see Ebert (1889: p. 85-87). [details]
