Cardenas et al. 2012 proposed this name to represent the Marine Haplosclerida (suborders Haplosclerina and Petrosina). Molecular sequence analysis has led to the hypothesis that freshwater sponges (Spongillina / Spongillida) and the Marine Haplosclerida do not form a monophyletic group. [details] A 'temporary name' status is given to taxa above the family level that need further corroboration or further clarification. These names appear in the literature but are as yet not generally accepted or in use. Accepted status will follow as soon as independent studies with sufficient taxon content have appeared.
