Nomenclature Berschauer (2017) designated a neotype for Fasciolaria papillosa that is conspecific with Fasciolaria gigantea, but the neotype is not consistent with the original desciption of F. papillosa. The International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature has received a petition (Case 3755) to conserve the name Fasciolaria gigantea Kiener, 1840 against Fasciolaria papillosa Sowerby I, 1825. Existing usage is to be maintained until a decision is reached on the case, so Triplofusus giganteus is maintained as the valid name for Fasciolaria gigantea and F. papillosa is regarded as a taxon inquirendum. [details]
