Remark Gurjanova (1965) and Nagata (1965) both considered that Netamelita and Eriopisella were synonymous. Vonk (1988) thought that they should remain separate because Eriopisella has a 2-articulate outer ramus on uropod 3 and in Netamelita it is 1-articulate.

According to Vonk (1988) Psammomelita differs from Netamelita as follows: 1) large midventral hooks on the venter between the pleopods; 2) a curved keel on the male maxilliped; 3) a less produced lobe on the carpus of gnathopod 2; 4) heavy serrations on the posterior margin of the basis of pereopods 5-7. Vonk (1988) considered characters 1, 2 and 4 to be apomorphies.

Thomas & Barnard (1991) showed that character 4 also occurred in Netamelita. A character not considered before is the very large mandibular molar of Netamelita and Psammomelita. This character could be used to further distinguish these two genera from Eriopisella. It is possible that Netamelita and Psammomelita are synonymous.
