| Note | |
Remark: Varices extending across shoulder to previous whorl, ornamented on the front faces with irregular, more or less radial ribs, broad base, but with acute foliated crests serrated by tiny trough shaped obsolete spines (Vella, 1961)
Maxwell (1971) in the remarks following the description of Typhis (Rugotyphis) vellai Maxwell, 1971 notes: … There is also considerable resemblance to some species of Typhis (Typhina), but members of that genus have smooth or only weakly crenulated varices. Rugotyphis differs from Typhis s.s. in having transverse ridges or crenulationspn the adapertural face of the varices, and in having the varical spines only weakly developed.
Note: The fossil species included in Rugotyphis by Gertman (1969) fit much better in Typhina (=Talityphis) (presence of a partition, broad apertural lip). [details]
