Habitat: tropical to temperate, coastal [details] Holotype: Skull in Zoologisches Museum Berlin, no. ZMB 66400. Long thought to not exist (Hershkovitz, 1966; Perrin et al., 2007). [details] IUCN Red List Category: Data Deficient (DD) [details] Synonymy: The Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphin Tursiops aduncus has been only recently recognized as a separate species. With further research, some of the names now in the synonymy of T. truncatus may be relegated to T. aduncus. A number of nominal species that relate to either one or the other of the two bottlenose dolphins (because they were named from the region of overlap of the two species) are listed in the database as "incertae sedis" and are not included in the synonymy in this database for either species. Where holotype specimens exist for these, they have not yet been examined to determine their identity.
