Validity: There is a taxonomic debate about the validity of this species. Nygren (2004) consider Autolytus lugens mediterraneus Cognetti 1953 as junior synonym of Myrianida quindecimdentata (Langerhans, 1884) based on the original description. However, Çinar & Gambi (2005) re-described the type material of A. lugens mediterraneus (also comparing it with A. quindecimdentatus) and ranked to species level the Cognetti's subspecies.
