General distribution: tropical, Indo-west Pacific Ocean, depth range 1-103 m. (Rowe & Gates, 1995; depth 34 fathoms in Clark (1911)).
Ecology: benthic, inshore, suspension feeder (Rowe & Gates, 1995). [details]
Diagnosis: Comanthus with 10-63 arms (usually <40): anterior arms usually markedly longer than posterior arms; cirri II—XIX, 11-16 segments, distal segments bear a sharp aboral transverse bar or tubercle; centrodorsal small discoidal; radials visible, of vari [details]
Distribution: Cockburn Sound (near Perth), West Australia to Byron Bay, New South Wales; Depth range : 0-28 m [details]
Type locality: Type locality: Bird Island, near Lizard Island, Queensland, Australia. Neotype in Australian Museum, Sydney (Australia) J17388 (Rowe & Gates, 1995).
