Description Length: 40 cm. Plumage: brownish grey above, greyer on throat and breast; belly and underwing white barred rufuos; tail black with three broad grey bars; undertail coverts white. Immature browner than adult with pale edges to feather; wholey white below with large brown blobs and streaks throughout, inlcuding underwing. Bare parts: iris dark brown in male, brown ringed yellow in female, grey in immature; bill black with yellow cere; feet and legs yellow. Habitat: very rare over coastal waters; mainly forested areas.<388><391><393> [details]
