Plumage: dark slate grey above, rich rufous streaked with black below (rare dark morph appears uniformly slaty or black); throat and cheeks white, malar streak black or dark brown; wings and tail long. Immature similar to adult but browner above with some barring on tail and paler edges to some feathers. Bare parts: iris dark brown; bill slaty blue with a yellow base and cere; bare skin around eyes yellow in female and blue in male; feet and legs yellow.
