Unreviewed: has not been verified by a taxonomic editorRemark In Subgenus (Mertensiothuria) Deichmann, 1958 in Tortonese (1980); in Subgenus (Stauropora) Rowe, 1969 in Rowe & Gates (1995). Selenka described the species on the basis of material from Zanzibar and from Hawaii ('Sandwich Islands'). According to Cherbonnier (1951) it is very well possible that the material from the two localities belongs to two different species.
