Unreviewed: has not been verified by a taxonomic editorsynonymy Pearson (1913) and Panning (1929) considered this species to be a synonym of Holothuria (Actinopyga) miliaris (Quoy & Gaimard, 1833); in 1944 Panning treats it as a subspecies of A. echinites (Jaeger), together with A. crassa Panning. Cherbonnier (1955) believes that A. crassa and echinites rank as distinct species. Also Clark & Rowe (1971) consider that A. plebeja merits specific rank. [details]
