Distribution: Distribution: Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans. Dorsal fin origin above or posterior to pelvic fin insertion; anal fin origin well behind dorsal fin origin. Dorsal adipose fin present in all but Rhadinesthes decimus. Many with ventral adipose fin anterior to anal fin. Scaleless. Chin barbel present. Dorsal fin with 9-21 rays. Anal fin with 12-28 rays.
