Spelling The Code in Article 58.7 regards litoralis / littoralis as the same spelling for the purposes of homonymy. Thus a subsequent author who changes the spelling has not created a different name. However, obviously the two are not the same spelling for the purposes of maintaining an author's original spelling. Müller, 1774 used Nais litoralis with a single consonant. For a time subsequent authors such as Blanchard (1825) used a double consonant. These are unavailable misspellings of no nomenclatural significance and do not have authorships. They are not deliberate replacement names of a defective name. The case of the usage of Örsted (1842) is no different from other misspellings, although he included his own name in the authorship as "Nais littoralis Örsd. (Mül. ex parte)" [on behalf of Müller]. Örsted also mentions Nais littoralis [sic] Müller in his text on p. 137 [details]
