Note  Synonymy: G.O. Sars (1878) mentioned the strong similarity between Altenaeum dawsoni and Mysella maltzani Verkrüzen, 1876. Because of this Madsen (1949) and Bernard (1979b) presumed that Altenaeum dawsoni should be considered a junior synonym of Montacuta dawsoni Jeffreys, 1864. According to Backeljau et al. (1984a) however,two separate species should be considered. [details]
