Checked: verified by a taxonomic editorNomenclature The earlier names Solen rotundatus Spengler, 1794 and Solen gladius Röding, 1798 have been put forward by Huber (2010: 664) and S. rotundatus presented as the valid name to be used for this species. However the name Solen marginatus is in usage and was declared “nomen protectum” by Cosel et al. (2014), with Solen rotundatus Spengler, 1794 and Solen gladius Röding both declared “nomina oblita”.  [details]

From other sources
Unreviewed: has not been verified by a taxonomic editorAuthority Van Urk (1964a, b) and Nordsieck (1969) cited "Pennant, 1777" as authority, however after further verification it seems that Pennant ("British Zoology") doesn't mention Solen marginatus but S. vagina.
Other authors give Pultenay as authority (e.g. Janssen et al., 1984). But Pultenay (1799) only mentioned a "Marginated Solen" when he described S. vagina.
From Montagu (1803) onwards the name Solen marginatus (in Latin form) is used for the first time and consequently should be cited as the author. [details]
